Danny Thomas and the Founding of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital As a struggling entertainer, Danny Thomas prayed to St. Jude Thaddeus, asking St. Jude to "show me my way in life, and I will build you a shrine."
Danny never forgot his vow to St. Jude, and as his career flourished, the idea to build a children' s hospital took shape in Danny's mind. In November 1962, Danny's dream came true when St. Jude Children's Research Hospital opened its doors.
