Paul McCartney Goes Electro on Bloody Beetroots' 'Out of Sight' - Song Premiere

Hear the full track from the Italian dance-punk star's upcoming album

JUNE 14, 2013

Way back in 1980, Paul McCartney was exploring his interest in electronic music on the solo album McCartney II. Being Paul McCartney, he managed to land a song from the oddball sessions ("Coming Up") atop the pop charts; however, much of the album, as epitomized by the popcorn-synth sound of "Temporary Secretary," was 8-bit music before the world had a chance to create any nostalgic distance from those early days of computing and video games.

Video Gallery: Paul McCartney: Best of the Solo Years

McCartney has always been fascinated with electronic music. His interest in the musique concrete of Karlheinz Stockhausen led to the composer's inclusion as one of the cutouts on the Sgt. Pepper album cover, and he has been making occasional records as the Fireman with Killing Joke co-founder Youth for 20 years. So it comes as little surprise that he'd jump at the chance to record with the Bloody Beetroots, the stage name of the one-man Italian "dance-punk" innovator who calls himself Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo.

"Out of Sight" (which also features Youth) finds the old Beatle appealing to the stadium EDM crowd in a heavily thumping, airily melodic track on which he wails in his finest Little Richard mode. Rifo – the masked performer identifiable by the year of his birth, 1977, tattooed across his chest – was presumably still in diapers when McCartney was recordingMcCartney II.

Vogue Magazine Power Issue: Beyonce Rules The World!

Read More at Vogue Magazine

Chart-topper, glamour wife, style icon, filmmaker, new mom, business mogul—Beyoncé is at the height of her powers and writing her own script.

From the March 2013 issue “Get ready for hair anarchy!” It’s a rainy winter evening in New York City, and inside a sprawling film studio across the river from midtown, Beyoncé Knowles is standing before a camera, cooling in her black Giuseppe Zanotti boots, awaiting a close-up. This is a commercial shoot for L’Oréal, and the business of hair is being attended to with the seriousness of a Congressional hearing. Beyoncé’s hair is shimmering in the dreamy and flawless way that hair in hair commercials is supposed to shimmer. The director forecasting hair anarchy is Jake Nava, Beyoncé’s partner for music videos like “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”—which infamously drove Kanye West to crash Taylor Swift’s MTV Video Music Awards speech so he could declare it “one of the best videos of all time.” Nava oversees this shoot with the calm of a man with an ace tucked in his pocket. Despite the competing demands of the evening—the product; the client; a fantastic, pulsing video screen that spills onto the floor and looks like Liberace’s fish tank—Nava keeps the focus on Beyoncé. Come on. This is about Beyoncé. Let Beyoncé be Beyoncé. See Beyoncé's best red-carpet looks. The camera rolls. A wind machine blasts. Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” booms over a sound system. Then Prince’s “Lovesexy.”

Beyoncé begins to do hip turns and shoulder swivels and unleashes a sultry pout with just the right level of safe-for-parents suggestiveness. From behind a monitor, Nava’s London accent offers cheeky, Austin Powers–y encouragements: “Wow!” “Yeah, man!” “Wow, great, Beyoncé—that’s really good, man.” “More!” “Different stuff!” Nava doesn’t offer specifics; Beyoncé knows what he wants. That preternatural sense is how you sell tens of millions of records and get mega–endorsement deals and become one of the most iconic entertainers of your generation. Beyoncé long ago achieved mononym status, but along the way she did something bigger: She accelerated beyond simply making music and an occasional movie and became less of a pop comet than a carefully curated brand. As her competition was spilling out of limousines, Beyoncé remained the knockout in six-inch heels who still gets home by 11:00 p.m. Responsibility over recklessness. President Obama said not long ago that the superstar “could not be a better role model for my girls.” See Beyoncé’s best performance looks. Go behind-the-scenes on her March 2013 cover shoot.

Justin Timberlake Wows at SXSW Myspace Show, Jimmy Fallon & SNL

For more Entertainment News Head Over to Billboard Magazine for the scoop!

After wowing the nation through an early stream of his upcoming album, The 20/20 Experience, and several televised performances, it's safe to say that Justin Timberlake doesn't have anything to prove. But at last night's SXSW MySpace Secret Show, the singer performed as if he did.

Pre-Order the 20/20 Experience CD on Amazon

Justin Timberlake didn't miss one step during the third show of Myspace's three-day SXSW show series, all held at Austin's Coppertank event venter.

The wait between Questlove and Justin Timberlake was only 15-minutes, but with heavy whispers of guest appearances (Jay-Z, Timbaland) and setlist choices (new music versus fan favorites) overheard throughout the venue, even before doors opened at 10pm, the wait felt longer.

Fifteen minutes after midnight, Justin Timberlake walks out strumming the strings of "Like I Love You," donning his signature fedora and tuxedo jacket with a novelty tuxedo shirt. The singer, with great support from his band, let each song ride to its very end as one member of the band took the lead transitioning into the next song with a solo.

Justin Timberlake performed hits from his two albums (Justified, 2002, FutureSex/LoveSounds, 2006) and three songs from his upcoming third studio album ("Pusher Love Girl," "That Girl" and Suit & Tie"). He freshened up the classics with a little personality. He broke out into hooks from some today's biggest rap songs. The singer rode the opening keys to "Cry My River" by rapping the hook to Juicy J's "Bandz A Make Her Dance." He also inserted hooks from Jay-Z, Kanye West's "Ni--as in Paris" and Trinidad James' "All Gold Everything" through out the breaks of his hits. Fans first got a taste of Justin Timberlake's like for "All Gold Everything," when including it in a recent 'Saturday Night Live' stint. While some of Myspace's very own roamed throughout the venue, such as talent director Lisa Binkert, director of content, Benjamin M. Ingram, and Neda Azarfar, SD, marketing communications & strategy, Tim and Chris Vanderhook and those from Chevy, who sponsored Myspace's third SXSW secret show, looked on from the VIP section, right of the stage.

Sherlen Archibald, Chamber Group's senior director of Media Relations; Ngoc Nguyen, publicist; Jamie Dominguez, senior director of SESAC

Sherlen Archibald, senior director of Media Relations + Digital of the Chamber Group, Jamie Dominguez of senior director of SESAC, and Ngoc Nguyen, publicist, were in the center of the action, taking their cool off for Questlove's DJ set.

Atlantic Records' Digital Marketing managers, Jesse "Punch" Edwards andRahim Wright, made their rounds socializing with writers and NBA 2K's Ronnie Singh, sharing their showcases they got to catch from earlier in the SXSW music week.

Atlantic Records Digital Marketing Manager Rahim Wright and NBA2K's Ronnie Singh

Snoop Dogg's A&R, Justin Li, was spotted taking his spot in VIP.

Conversation throughout the crowd varied. While some were speculating whether Justin Timberlake would bring out a special guest, specifically Jay-Z as he's done with recent televised performances of "Suit & Tie," others were sharing as to how, though satisfied, they were relieved that the strenuous week at SXSW was coming to an end.

Ashley Outrageous, blogger, artist and social media management; artist Jasmine Solano Many strolled through their Twitter timeline to catch tweets from those in attendance at Samsung Galaxy's SXSW show with Tribe Called Quest and Prince occurring streets away at La Zona Rosa. But, they quickly switched over to their camera app as soon as Justin Timberlake stepped on stage at 12:15pm CT. Ashley Outrageous, blogger and artist/social media management, and artist Jamine Solano, enjoyed themselves through out the entire show. They headed over into the photo booth, tucked away at back of the venue, afterwards and took a few shots of themselves goofing off.

The audience never once stopped singing along in unison; they even organically broke into a men vs. women competition to the closing of the Pharrell-produced "Señorita," all while Justin Timberlake two-stepped and played the keyboard simultaneously.

JT took fans by surprise when he covered INXS' "Need You Tonight," after transitioning from harder edged "FutureSex/LoveSounds," led by the electric guitarist.

The singer, which was introduced as the "biggest star in the whole world right now" before taking the stage, closed his 45-minute set with a smooth rendition of "SexyBack." Although in a state of bliss, Justin Timberlake left everyone pleading for an encore, or at least one more.

Justin Timberlake Hosts and Performs on Saturday Night Live on March 9, 2013

Steve Martin just posted this sweet reunion photo to his Twitter account that revealed some special guest appearances for the latest episode of "Saturday Night Live," hosted by Justin Timberlake.

"SNL" creator Lorne Michaels is the foreground of Martin's picture along with Martin Short, Dan Ackroyd, Tom Hanks, Chevy Chase and music legend Paul Simon. All are members of "SNL's" five-timers club for repeat hosts, which Timberlake qualifies for with the Saturday show.

Madonna Dresses As Boy Scout, Slams Organization's Gay Ban And Honors Anderson Cooper

Wearing a replica of one of the organization's uniforms, Madonna called on the Boy Scouts to lift its ban on gays while also calling for a "revolution" to prevent discrimination and abuse of the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community.

Speaking Saturday night at the GLAAD Media Awards, Madonna started off in a mischievous mood. She joked that she wanted to become a part of the Boy Scouts herself, but was turned down, even though she had the qualifications.

"I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent," said Madonna, sporting a Boy Scouts troop leader hat and a blue shirt and shorts set that included replicas of Boy Scout badges.

"I can rescue kittens from trees. . Most importantly, I know how to scout for boys," she said, before adding, "I think they should change their stupid rules."

The Boy Scouts of America does not permit openly gay people to serve in the organization - a decision that has come under increasing fire over the years.

Later, she got serious as she talked about the conflicts in the world and of the bullying of young gay, lesbian and transgender people.

"When I think about young kids in America who are being bullied and tortured, who are taking their own lives because they feel alone and judged, outcast and misunderstood, I want to sit down and cry a river of tears," Madonna said.

Noting that she has teenagers herself, she said, "It's an atrocity to me, I don't accept it." Later she said, "I don't know about you, but I can't take this (expletive) anymore. That is why I want to start a revolution. It's 2013 people. We live in America, land of the free and home of the brave? That's a question, not a statement."

Madonna was on hand to give the Vito Russo Award to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. She lauded Cooper for standing up for the rights of others.

Also honored by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation was the NBC musical series "Smash," the documentary "How To Survive a Plague," and "The Amazing Race." Brett Ratner was also given the Ally Award - a turnaround from 2011, when the organization condemned the director for using an anti-gay slur, and he stepped down from a plan to direct the 2012 Academy Awards in the ensuing controversy.

Since then, Ratner has worked with the organization and made a public service announcement to promote equality.

SXSW 2013: Prince Closes Festival With Epic Concert

By Eric R. Danton March 17, 2013

Prince gave fair warning last night somewhere between his second and third encores. "Don't make me hurt you – you know how many hits I have?" he asked the crowd packed into La Zona Rosa in Austin as SXSW drew to a close.

Enough that he didn't get to them all. Not even close, in fact, though he performed for two hours and 40 minutes, returning to the stage time and again for six or seven encores in all. At a festival where special guests and counterintuitive collaborations are the currency of much-coveted buzz, Prince relied on himself  and on a band that was tighter than a Marine Corps top sheet. Dave Grohl's SXSW Keynote Speech: 'The Musician Comes First'

As much jam session for the NPG as it was a concert, Prince sang, danced, played a little piano and was generous in spotlighting his backing musicians, who included 11 horn players, two guitarists, a bass player, a drummer, a percussionist and a host of vocalists. The only thing Prince didn't do was play guitar, but then "Purple Rain" didn't include the outro guitar solo, either. He was probably just too busy directing the show, as if sampling and savoring each ingredient and adjusting to taste. The songs rarely seemed to start or stop, only to shift and flow in new directions as "Shhh" became "Musicology," which transformed into "Extra Lovable," with bursts of brass tumbling over Prince's vocals.

The band did the same thing without him during instrumental sections, sliding from tight, funky soul laced with horns into an impressionistic jazz-tinted section that featured a horn solo, followed by a ripping guitar break. They stretched out on "Purple Rain," and Prince urged the crowd to sing wordless vocals in place of the guitar solo, and reflected on his career choice. "I love being a musician," he said. "It feels like a servant. A servant for you."

That song ended a 50-minute main set that began with the horn players taking the stage by parading through the crowd like a New Orleans second line, and also included a ringing burst of synths and horns on "1999." For the string of encores, Prince pulled out covers of songs by Curtis Mayfield, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, and soul and funk workouts "like we do in Minneapolis." He dipped into Morris Day and the Time's catalog with "Jungle Love," played Sheila E.'s hit "The Glamorous Life" (which Prince wrote) and unearthed his own rarity, "Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)," singing anguished lyrics accompanied by piano on a darkened stage.

Finally, as the clock ticked toward 3 a.m., Prince wrapped up, even as diehards called for one more song.

From CBS Website

Country music superstars Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift and chart-topping R&B artist Ne-Yo are the first performers to be added to the all-star lineup scheduled to perform at the ACM Presents: Tim McGraw's Superstar Summer Night, taping Monday, April 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The special will be broadcast at a later date on the CBS Television Network.

ACM PRESENTS: TIM McGRAW's SUPERSTAR SUMMER NIGHT will feature star-studded performances and musical collaborations during a two-hour concert event to benefit ACM Lifting Lives. Fifteen-time ACM Award winner Tim McGraw is spotlighting the hottest music of summer and calling on his friends to help kick off the 2013 touring season.

"There's no better time for live music than in the heat of the summer," said McGraw. "Country music is hotter than it's ever been, and with some help from a few friends in other formats, too, we're going to get summer started off right. I've been lucky enough to have all these artists tour with me, and it'll be fun to get everyone back together to help raise money and bring some attention to Lifting Lives. Not enough people know what good work the organization does, and when I was asked to help put this show together, it was a no-brainer."

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy, and an organization that McGraw was closely affiliated with over his last tour. For more information, log onto www.ACMLiftingLives.orgwww.ACMcountry.com or follow on Twitter at @ACMawards.

For 20 years, Tim McGraw has been providing a powerful connection with his audience. With Two Lanes of Freedom, his new album and first release for Big Machine Records, the singer is covering his broadest emotional range yet, with a set of songs that looks forward and back, gets deep and gets loose, and reveals that even the biggest stars can continue to grow with consistency and maturity.

In his record-shattering career, McGraw has sold more than 40 million albums and dominated the charts with 32 #1 singles. Since the release of his debut album in 1993, he has won three GRAMMY® Awards, 15 Academy of Country Music Awards, 12 Country Music Association Awards and 10 American Music Awards, while simultaneously maintaining a parallel career as a successful actor in such films as "The Blind Side," "Country Strong" and "Friday Night Lights," as well as hosting "Saturday Night Live," a rare honor for a singer in any genre. McGraw has never been afraid of breaking new ground - over the years, he has collaborated with musicians from Nelly and Tony Bennett to Def Leppard and Ne-Yo.

ACM Lifting Lives® is the philanthropic arm of the Academy of Country Music dedicated to improving lives through the power of music. Each year, ACM Lifting Lives provides grants to music therapy and music education programs. Other giving includes serving members of the country music community who face unexpected medical or financial hardship through the Diane Holcomb Emergency Relief Fund and partnering with artists to improve lives through music. Since 2009, the ACM Lifting Lives on-stage moment during the Academy of Country Music Awards has raised over $200,000 for designated charities. Downloads and direct donations of Toby Keith's performance on the 45th annual ACM broadcast and Darius Rucker's performance on the 46th annual telecast raised funds and awareness for Stand Up To Cancer and Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, respectively. Comcast, the nation’s largest cable television provider, will carry Revolt on its local cable systems.

Combs will partner with MTV veteran Andy Schuon on Revolt, which will showcase programming including music videos, live performances, and interviews with a social media component.

Revolt is one of four minority-owned networks announced today by Comcast. Comcast, will also distribute networks owned by NBA superstar Magic Johnson, and Hollywood director Robert Rodriguez

The announcement came Tuesday (Feb. 21, 2012) from David L. Cohen, executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation.

David Cohn said, the new networks are: Aspire, led by Ervin “Magic” Johnson, which will celebrate the successes, achievements and accomplishments of the African American community; El Rey, by director Robert Rodriguez with John Fogelman and Cristina Patway from Factory Made Ventures, which will be an action-packed general entertainment network for Latino and general audiences; and Baby First Americas, from Constantino Schwarz, which is designed for infants and young children and their parents with a focus on early development.

For the latest information about REVOLT, please follow Sean “Diddy” Combs at @IamDiddy on Twitter or Facebook

Here's the release:

February 21, 2012 – Comcast Corporation, one of the world’s leading media, entertainment and communications companies, today announced it has selected four new minority-owned independent networks to be broadly distributed on Comcast Cable systems between April 2012 and January 2014. After a thorough evaluation of more than 100 proposals, Comcast selected four networks ― two of which are majority African-American owned and two that are majority American Hispanic owned and operated and programmed in English.

“We are thrilled to work with such talented individuals to launch these new networks that will bring exciting and fresh content to consumers,” said David L. Cohen, Executive Vice President, Comcast Corporation. “Comcast is committed to delivering programming that reflects the interests of our customers, and we look forward to integrating these great networks into our rich programming line-up.”

African-American Category:

· Aspire: Spearheaded by Entrepreneur and NBA Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson, in partnership with GMC TV, Aspire is dedicated to delivering enlightening, entertaining and positive programming to African-Americans families, including movies, documentaries, short films, music, comedy, visual and performing arts, and faith and inspirational programs. Aspire will celebrate the successes, achievements and accomplishments of the African-American community and create new opportunities for the next generation of African-American visionaries. The network will launch by summer 2012.

“Aspire will be a network that encourages and challenges African-Americans to reach for their dreams and will appeal to all generations. Aspire will celebrate our heritage, our groundbreaking achievements and the fearless talent that has shaped American culture. I’m most excited about Aspire creating opportunities for the new voices, new visions and the next generation of storytellers,” said Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

· REVOLT: Proposed by superstar and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs and MTV veteran Andy Schuon, this network is designed to have programming inspired by music and pop culture, including music videos, live performances, music news, and interviews and will incorporate social media interaction for music artists and fans. The network has entered into an agreement to launch in 2013.

“REVOLT is the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media” said Sean “Diddy” Combs. “We’re building this platform for artists to reach an extraordinary number of people in a completely different way. REVOLT will be live, like all great moments in television history. REVOLT will also be immediate, like today’s social networks. We know it was a highly competitive process and we want to thank Comcast for this opportunity to truly change television with REVOLT.”

Hispanic Category:

· El Rey: Proposed by legendary Hollywood director Robert Rodriguez and FactoryMade Ventures executives John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa, this network is designed to be an action-packed, general entertainment network in English for Latino and general audiences that includes a mix of reality, scripted and animated series, movies, documentaries, news, music, comedy, and sports programming. The El Rey network will include programming that features Hispanic producers, celebrities and public figures. The network has entered into an agreement to launch by January 2014.

"This partnership with Comcast signals an important moment for the Latino community in this country – we are passionate about creating a wildly entertaining destination that we can be proud of by appealing to both Latino and mass market audiences," said Robert Rodriguez and CEO of FactoryMade Ventures John Fogelman. "We engineered El Rey to address a burgeoning opportunity to deliver unique, high-quality and compelling content to a hard-to-reach demographic and are excited to bring more opportunities to generations of talent, storytellers and dreamers through this special partnership.”

· Baby First Americas: Proposed by Spanish language television veteran Constantino “Said” Schwarz, this network is designed for infants, very young children, and their parents, and emphasizes the importance of early development of verbal, math and motor skills. The network has entered into an agreement to launch by April 2012.

“We are thrilled to partner with Comcast and commend them for recognizing the importance of quality education for young children,” remarked Constantino “Said” Schwarz, CEO and Chairman BabyFirst Americas. “BabyFirst Americas aims to bring the essential academic building blocks for Kindergarten readiness into the home, making it accessible for families all across the U.S.”

Comcast made a series of voluntary public interest commitments in connection with the NBCUniversal transaction, one of which is to launch 10 new independently owned and operated networks over the next eight years. Of the 10 networks, four will be majority African-American owned, two will be majority American Latino owned, two will be operated by American Latino programmers, and two will provide additional independent programming. Ultimately, each of the 10 networks will be added on select Comcast systems as part of the digital basic tier of service.

iPhone Gramophone: Amplifies Your iPhone, Edison-Style

Mashable Article

Listening to music from your phone is tough. Without headphones, and with the volume turned all the way up, you still need to connect to a speaker toreally enjoy what song is playing.

But what if you're in the mood for something a little more vintage? Say, 1877-vintage? Restoration Hardware recently released the iPhone Gramophone — and, yes, it's just what you'd think it is.

The sound dock is designed to look like a traditional gramophone, with a walnut base and an iron and brass horn. Your iPhone plugs directly into the base, and the horn amplifies sound right from its speaker — so no batteries or electricity are needed. The creators say the dock is all about keeping the classic look and, in turn, classic sound. So don't expect high-definition quality (but, again, we're talking vintage here.)

The Gramophone accepts all iPhone models, including the iPhone 5. It's available for $249. An iPad Gramophone is also available, for $299.
